Inside an Oaks roof

What’s under your shingles?

A roof is a system of layers. This Oaks project photo shows the underlayment before the shingles go on.

  1. 01

    Shingles

The layer you can see. It sheds water and takes the sun, wind and hail. Missing or curling shingles are often the first warning sign.

  2. 02

    Underlayment

A water-resistant sheet beneath the shingles. If water gets past the surface, this is the second line of defense.

  3. 03

    Ice and water barrier

A self-sealing membrane often used at eaves, valleys and around chimneys and vents, where leaks most often begin.

  4. 04

    Roof deck

The boards everything is fastened to. Soft or rotten decking is a common reason a small leak becomes a bigger job.

Scott and his team recently came out and redid a roof for my wife and I could not be more impressed. They were professional and efficient throughout the whole process. We were both shocked at how quickly they knocked out the entire job, old shingles and sheathing were off within a few hours, and the whole roof replace by late afternoon. By the time the job was done you would never know there were half a dozen workers there that day, not a single unused shingle left on the property, no packaging materials, etc. As an added bonus we also got some great drone shots of the house. Very happy with the whole experience.

Scott and his crew did an excellent job on our roof. It was a large project - main house plus the extension with skylights, but they handled everything professionally, communicated clearly, and made sure we were happy with the plan. They also cleaned up thoroughly afterward, which we really appreciated. The finished roof looks great, and we’d highly recommend Oaks Roofing & Construction to anyone.

Awesome roofing company. Scott worked with my insurance company to help me get the replacement covered. He scheduled the work in a timely manner. Scott and his team were here about 7 hours. When they left the area around the house was cleaner than when they got here. Would gladly recommend this company to my friends and family!

We are very happy with our new roof. Scott and his team were easy to work with and efficient. They started early and stayed late to get our roof on before a long stretch of rain.
